Day 17 - Do we remember?
How easily we forget what God has done for us in the past. I find that it is the answer to our hopelessness, discouragement and even circumstances.
Psalm 77 is one that I preached in Seminary and other places, I love the contrast of despair with hope, and the difference is our memory. Remembering the things God has done for us in the past give us hope for what He will do in the future.
77:13 Your ways, O God, are holy.
What god is so great as our God?
14 You are the God who performs miracles;
you display your power among the peoples.
The psalmist struggles to figure out why God is silent, why he is not answering, why things have turned.
In this struggle is where he practiced a discipline of truth: remember God's actions in the past. The way He has acted in the past determines how He will do it in the future (his character and love don't change).
Remember the time you were in a Psalm 23 moment, shadow of death but God saved you?
Remember a time in the past where you ran out of resources and He delivered you?
Remember when you were sick and He healed you?
Remember when He provided just what you needed?
Our God is a compassionate God, wait on Him, seek Him and you will be delivered again!
