DAY 15
Readings from Psalm 15, 45, 75, 105, 135 Proverbs 15
I love proverbs, its my opinion that every young person should read them every year.
15:1 A gentle answer turns away wrath but a harsh word stirs up anger.
I have so many examples of this principle, both times I did it right and times I did it wrong. Its amazing how this is counter-intuitive but is exactly what works.
4 “The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life”. Wow, this is what I want yet my tongue brings many things other than healing. A few have told me that I lack “tack”, they are so stupid. Just joking. I am constantly battling in deciding, should I say something or just stay quiet. This is where wisdom comes, discerning the moment and outcome of my words.
16 “Better is life with the fear of the Lord than great wealth with turmiol”.
12 A mocker resents correction; he will not consult the wise.
13 A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit.
24 The path of life leads upward for the wise to keep him from going down to the grave. [b]
I have given a lot of young people advice, some hide their disdain well but some are open about their disappointment. Some just want affirmation for bad decisions they are about to make. A few really listen and take the advice and grow in wisdom. How many times did I do that to previous mentors? How many times did I despise advice? Since very little I had a rebellious arrogant heart. It was broken and broken again. Brokeness is the key to wisdom, its what allows us to listen. May I not despise the wise words of others anymore Lord. Help me listen.
